Wonder Woman 1984 Gal Gadot‘Wonder Woman 1984’: Warners Debates HBO Max Release In January or Theatrical Summer 2021

By now, given nearly
every major theatrical release has fled 2020 thanks to the COVID-19 pandemic

new dilemma has been faced for the company, release the film on a streaming

Amanda Seyfried, MankAmanda Seyfried Is ‘Mank’s Oscar Surprise

Before we begin, it should be noted that reviews for David Fincher‘s much anticipated new film “Mank” are currently embargoed. In that context, we’re only here to just discuss the “Netflix International Pictures” release as a potential Oscar contender. And, as the months of hype has suggested, it’s going to be a major player this season. The surprise, however, isn’t Gary Oldman’s committed performance as the title character or Fincher’s “Citizen Kane”-inspired aesthetic.

The Mandalorian season 2New ‘Mandalorian’ Season 2 Trailer: The Galaxy’s Toughest Babysitting Bounty Hunter Seeks Out Jedi

About a year or so ago, Bob Iger said, the future of “Star Wars” lay in television, at least new film franchises were up and running. Yesterday, in a restructuring of media and entertainment division announcement (read: more layoffs), Disney announced its “primary focus” for entertainment is streaming. That has its own much bigger, implications, but man, that really puts the focus on Lucasfilm‘s critically acclaimed series “The Mandalorian,” which is the sole “Star Wars” series on-air currently.

Abbie Hoffman (Sacha Baron Cohen), Jerry Rubin (Jeremy Strong), Tommy Hayden (Eddie Redmayne), Rennie Davis (Alex Sharp), David Dellinger (John Carroll Lynch), John Froines (Daniel Flaherty), and Lee Weiner (Noah Robbins) were the Chicago 7. Along with Bobby Seale (Yahya Abdul-Mateen II), co-founded the Black Panther Party, these eight men captivated America from 1969-70 while on trial for inciting a riot during the 1968 Democratic National Convention — a bloody protest witnessing the Chicago Police Department viciously beating unarmed demonstrators, which culminated in Mayor Daley instituting his infamous shoot to kill order.

‘City Hall’: Frederick Wiseman’s Latest Is Four-Star Competency Porn [TIFF Review]

“The people who work for the city work for you,” explains Boston Mayor Marty Walsh, to a room full of his constituents. “They’re there to service you.” That simplest of ideas, a real gimme in the not-too-distant past, stands at the center of “City Hall,” the latest of Frederick Wiseman’s documentary deep dives into the nuts and bolts of America’s institutions. He opens with a meeting between the mayor and members of the Boston Police Department, a simple strategy session: what they’re getting right, what they have to improve, what new and transformative ideas they can incorporate into their work (“What’s the follow-up on trauma?”).

Good Joe Bell Mark Wahlberg‘Good Joe Bell’ Is A Redemptive Drama That Succumbs To Its Own Shallow Straight Gaze [TIFF Review]

Near the beginning of the film is a scene where Joe Bell (Mark Wahlberg) stands in front of an assembled group of high schoolers to speak about bullying. The gruff father shares two points: Understanding begins at home and everything will be fine if you are true to yourself. The story about a dad walking cross country, from Oregon to New York, to raise anti-bullying awareness for his son, often travels with the same slightness.

Summer of '85‘Summer of ’85’: François Ozon’s Young Romance is Best At Its Sunniest [TIFF Review]

“Don’t take me for a psycho,” explains Alex, the protagonist of François Ozon’s “Summer of ’85,” explains in the film’s opening voice-over. “Corspes are not my thing… Corpses are not my thing. They have a terrible effect on me. Actually, one corpse had a terrible effect on me.” Yet at the conclusion of that pitch-black opening, which is written and framed like murderer’s confession, Ozon slams into upbeat New Wave music and beautiful bodies on a sunny beach, a single cut that summarizes the style (and, perhaps, the biggest flaw) of the French filmmaker’s latest.
