Peter III became emperor of Russia in 1762 at the age of 34. It took six months from the time he took the title for his wife, Catherine the Great, to conspire with her lover to overthrow him. While 1762 began the longest reign by a woman in Russian history, Peter III wouldn’t make it out of the year alive.
