There was a time when British television bosses were extremely sensitive to the dangers of appearing to be partisan, even obliquely, during a general election. In 1979, for example, the BBC cancelled a screening of the Boulting brothers’ classic satire on strikes and industrial relations, I’m All Right Jack.
