Signed up to Disney+ yet? If you’re overdue for some easy yet nostaligic watching, they have you covered. With a massive and ever-growing catalogue of movies and TV shows, the magic of Disney is easier to capture more now than ever.
As the years go by, you can easily forget such amazing classics that you either grew up with or saw as a kid while it was on VCR and have now likely completely forgotten about as the ‘adult life’ has taken over. Not to worry, we’ve done the hard* yards and rounded-up 10 of the best Disney flicks to get you back on track, streaming on Disney+ now.
Ice Age (2002)
The 2002 Blue Sky Studios movie ICE AGE is a beloved classic among many. But as we keep getting tons of animated movies and remakes over the years, this movie has slowly gone back to the ice sge until it’s arrival on Disney+. Here’s a quick summary in case you may have forgotten: Manny the Mammoth, Sid the (talkative) sloth and Diego the saber-toothed tiger go on a comical quest to return a human baby back to its father while the rest of the world is on the brink of an ice age.
Treasure Island (1950)
The age-old story of a boy who goes on an adventure to battle Long John Silver for a buried treasure is a classic tale. It’s a beloved classic among many and is something for the whole family to enjoy. Plus, it was Disney’s first live-action film and the first screen version of Treasure Island to be shown in colour. It’s a classic movie for all that also has a little history behind it to enjoy!
Dr. Dolittle (1998)
As the remake featuring Robert Downey Jr. is out these holidays, the classic Eddie Murphy movie is one that will more than likely not be forgotten about by many. But what you probably didn’t know is that the original Dr.Dolittle is on Disney+ right now. With its talking animals and Eddie Murphy’s comedic personality, it’s a movie that is worth watching with friends and family for a guaranteed good time.
10 Things I Hate About You (1999)
This well-beloved movie is a favourite among many, as it’s the Rom-Com of the 90s. Featuring the great Heath Ledger, it’s about a boy who instantly falls for the girl of his dreams, but she’s forbidden from dating until her completely un-datable sister goes out too. If you’ve been looking for this movie or need a classic Rom-Com to watch, this is it. But you knew that already, right?
Chicken Little (2005)
This was one of my favourite animated movies as a kid, before we movied into the new age animation of the 2010s. With a completely original story of a chicken who thinks the sky is falling and no one believes him, his friends join him on an epic adventure to save their world from a catastrophic ending. It’s a movie that has fallen under everyone’s the radar and highly worth checking out.
Country Bears (2002)
This 2002 musical classic is a flick following a bear who is raised by humans and decides to trace back his roots. With the help of the Country Bears, an ex-musical band, they help reunite him with his family, while the band reunites, too. It’s spectacular musical adventure that is well forgotten and is an entertaining movie for many.
Cool Runnings (1993)
If you’ve never heard of the Jamaican Bobsled team then who are you?! This movie is a hilariously fun family flick based on a true story of four Jamaican athletes who go to extreme measures to compete in the 1988 Winter Olympics. With virtually no clue about winter sports at all, they go on an adventure that will have you on the edge of your seat as they go for gold.
Thor Ragnarok (2017)
With Aussie lead Chris Hemsworth as the God of Thunder, he returns for his third stand-alone movie. When Thor is deprived of his hammer Mjolnir, he mysteriously arrives on the other side of the universe and must get back in time to save his home of Asgard. This fun-filled movie has tons of Aussie and Kiwi humour, directed by the great Taika Waititi. It yet has fallen under many radars since leaving the theatres as the Avengers movies had started to take over the box office. It’s highly worth checking out as you don’t need any context! Plus, fun fact: The film was shot briefly in Brisbane and the Gold Coast.
Garfield (2004)
The live-action lasagna-eating cat is back on Disney+. With a fun and silly adventure for the entire family to enjoy, it’s a forgotten classic among many for its wacky adventure. When Jon’s new dog Odie gets abducted, Garfield must gather his variety of friends set out to rescue him before it’s too late. It’s a movie that many people love but has slowly become forgotten as the years go by.
Honey I Shrunk the Kids (1989)
As a scientist tries his best to get his recent shrinking invention to work, things go AWOL when he accidentally shrinks his own kids and throws them along with the garbage. It’s a silly comedic adventure that is worth checking out if you’re either looking for something new or interested in this nostalgic movie as it’s a well forgotten classic that you should check out if you’re looking for something new.
