My wardrobe is undoubtedly neutrals heavy, but one color that’s always had my heart is a good green. When done right, I feel like it’s vibrant yet not too bold for a professional setting, and flattering on so many different skin tones! I’m partnering with Ann Taylor on their latest collection, which features a couple lovely pieces in this color and more. Take 40% off your purchase with code FRIENDS40 during the last few hours of their friends & family sale, ending tonight (Monday night). Here’s a few items I’ve tried on and would recommend:
1. Foldover neck dress. In “alpine green” or black.
Great example of a classic everyday work piece elevated by color and details – in this case, an elegant foldover neckline with flattering cap sleeves. The top portion of this dress is reminiscent of a popular higher end piece that some of you may remember from a few years ago. The true color of this green in my opinion is definitely less teal than the stock photo shows and closer to an emerald (anyone else who’s seen or owns it, please chime in!).
The material feels like a medium weight crepe-like fabric with a hint of stretch, and is fully lined with a back zipper. I’m currently 5′ 98lb and the xxs petite fit pretty well, but smaller framed ladies might find a little extra room around the waist and hips. If you want an additional layer for the office, I’d style this with a light khaki, linen, taupe or navy blazer.
2. Maternity-friendly pick in another gorgeous green: Jersey shirred waist dress.
A super comfortable and stretchy, good quality (torso and skirt are fully lined) jersey dress in a more modern silhouette. The top portion has a blouson-style fit with drop shoulders, and sleeves that taper to a more narrow fit at the wrists and is adorned with small fabric covered buttons. The skirt portion below the blouson waist is a little more fitted, for contrast against the top.
I tried this dress on (in 00 petite) and immediately thought what a great bump-friendly piece it’d make that can also be worn normally before and after pregnancy. The shirred waistline can be shifted to worn above the bump on expectant mamas, and I think the stretch in the skirt could accommodate up to a late second trimester belly. I compared the shades “green meadows” vs the “alpine green” I’m wearing in this post under natural lighting. Both hues are beautiful in my opinion – green meadows has just the slightest more yellow tone to it than the other, but still not what I’d consider yellowy!
3. Spotted print skirt (petites going quickly)
One ongoing trend over the past year that keeps catching my eye are slip dresses and skirts. I got to try on this option and it’s nice quality with good weight to it (fabric feels beautifully smooth and not thin or clingy/staticy at all), and I think the asymmetrical front slit is very flatteringly placed and helps this stand out from standard slip skirts. A slinky skirt like this would look great paired with a silky cream or black cami, a simple black turtleneck, or juxtaposed against a more slouchy, oversized sweater half tucked in the front. 00 Petite measures: ” across the waist, ” length.
4. Azra suede pumps
I’ve raved about these sculpted pumps in black over the past year, and finally got a second color after eyeing it for a while! “Posh camel” is a bit of a misnomer – I’d describe the actual color as a light taupe, about a shade or two lighter than in the stock image. Amongst my shoe closet, taupe is one of the most leg flattering and versatile hues, since it can read warmer or cooler depending on the rest of the outfit.
5. Pearl bobby pins
I picked these up in my recent sale order and are very happy with them. They’re lightweight but have little grippy knobs at the tips which help them stay put. One of my favorite easy hairstyles is doing an off-centered part and sweeping all my hair over to one side (kind of like here), then adorning the other side with a 2 or 3 rows of these pearl bobby pins.
Thank you to Ann Taylor for partnering on this post.
