Attention Brisbane foodies! There’s a new Thai restaurant on the block, and it’s set to shake things up when it launches on Eagle Street next month. Boasting fiery flavours, 70s-inspired design, river views and a ceiling strung with 150 glowing lanterns, Naga Thai is bringing the heat to Brisbane this October.
Named after the dragons that stand guard over temples in Thailand, Naga is the latest foodie venture from Andrew Baturo, who heads a number of iconic Brisbane venues including Libertine, The Gresham Bar, Popolo Kitchen & Bar, and Walter’s Steakhouse. Teaming up with Head Chef Suwisa Phoonsang, who worked alongside Baturo at Libertine, the pair have delivered a venue that celebrates the spirit of Thailand, while serving up Asian dishes with a modern-day twist.
Head Chef Suwisa Phoonsang will pay homage to both Bangkok and the northern village of her upbringing with a mash-up of freshness, spice, heat and herbs – all with a focus on quality Aussie produce. You can look forward to a menu of mouth-watering Thai fusion dishes, including Moreton Bay bug pad Thai, a seafood dumpling green curry and Thai street food faves like grilled pork neck salad and massaman beef milk buns. As if delicious food isn’t enough, you can also get your drink on with a versatile drinks menu that includes exclusive house specials like lychee wine, Naga Laga and the signature Nagaroni. Overlooking the Story Bridge, you can pick your poison and sit back with drink in-hand, while taking in the scenes of the Brisbane River.
Designed by Brisbane interior design creative Anna Spiro, the restaurant space is a nod to the 60s and 70s, incorporating hyper-real colours, bold fabrics, and retro furnishings. Taking inspiration from twisting Naga serpents and the winding Brisbane river, the 150-seat venue is full of curving architecture, which only adds to the eclectic feel of the venue. Look skywards and you’ll be met with a ceiling full of lanterns – a nod to Thai tradition.
Set to launch in early October, you can find Naga in the former Pony space on Eagle Street. Naga will be open six days a week, from 11.30am for lunch and dinner (closed Mondays), with late night dining options to come. Walk-ins will be accepted, or you can book from early October on 3220 0505. Bookings via the website will open soon.
